Kathmandu, October 15 – Thirteen industries in Nepal have received financial grants from the Rastriya Banijya Bank Limited for successfully implementing energy efficiency measures under the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program, part of the Sustainable Energy for Recovery and Empowerment Project.
The program, supported by the European Union and the German government through the REP-Green Project, provides partial funding to encourage high-impact energy-saving initiatives. The grants, totaling over NPR 40 million, were awarded on Tuesday after detailed energy audits identified actionable energy-saving measures.
The implemented measures are expected to save 1,235,544 kWh of energy annually, leading to cost reductions exceeding NPR 47.75 million each year. These initiatives also contribute to Nepal’s climate targets and support sustainable economic growth.
The recipient industries span multiple sectors, including agricultural processing, pharmaceuticals, and dairy. AG Health Industries Pvt. Ltd. received the largest grant of NPR 10 million for replacing manual packaging machines, which is expected to save over NPR 10 million annually. Sitaram Gokul Milks Kathmandu Pvt. Ltd. also received support, with Managing Director Sumit Kedia noting that energy initiatives account for approximately 30–35% of operating costs and promote practical industrial improvements.
Dr. Pankaj Tiwari of Aero Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. highlighted that the energy audit introduced new approaches for maximizing energy use while meeting international safety and quality standards.
European Union representative Ranjan Prakash Shrestha emphasized that the program encourages industries to continue energy efficiency efforts beyond the project’s support. Meanwhile, Devendra Raman Khanal, CEO of National Commercial Bank, praised the industries’ contributions and expressed confidence that these initiatives will have a long-term positive impact on Nepal’s energy future.
