Nepali ghee popular in Japan, exporting 51,000 liters in ten months

Bagmati, Falgun 11. Demand has increased after the government-owned Hetauda Milk Distribution Project started exporting ghee to Japan.


According to project chief Naresh Joshi, 51,000 liters of ghee was exported from last April to January. He said that the demand for Nepali ghee is increasing in Japan and Seven / eight thousand liters of ghee is being exported at a time. So far, ghee has been exported seven times. The project produces 500 liters of ghee daily.


The project was established in 38 ropanis of land in Hetauda Industrial Area in April 2030 BS under the Dairy Development Corporation with the financial and technical support of the Danish government. The project is collecting 25,000 liters of milk daily in Makwanpur, Bara, Parsa, Sarlahi and Rautahat districts.


Out of them, 6,500 liters of processed milk and 1,500 liters of yoghurt are sold daily, consistent with the project. The project has been purchasing milk from 6,000 farmers daily and paying them Rs. 30 million to Rs. 50 million monthly.


Rs. 30 million has been paid in off-season and Rs. 50 million in other seasons. The processing capacity of the project is 3,000 liters of milk per hour. aside from this, dairy products including curd, cheese, ghee, butter, fresh milk, red molasses, raspberry, ice cream, processed cream, peda and khuwal are being produced and distributed.


The above milk products are being sold in urban and rural market areas of Birgunj, Narayanghat and Hetauda and therefore the additional market area is increasing. Under the project, there are seven moisture centers in Chandranigahapur, Garuda, Nawalpur, Barhathwa, Haraiya, Baswariya and Simrongadh respectively.


Project Officer Thakur Das Shrestha said that milk is additionally collected from milk producers' cooperatives in Makwanpur and other districts. "The project has been sending the excess milk to other projects including Balaju."


The project features a storage capacity of 60,000 liters of milk. He informed that the assembly capacity of three ,000 liters of yoghurt, ghee, butter and cheese is 500 kg per day, face milk, 1,500 bottles per shift, 360 packets per day and 900 packets of Lal Mohan per day.


The sales are being distributed through three distributors, 28 dealers and 197 sales booths. The project continued its service even in lockdown.
