Since the formation of the present government, the work of physical infrastructure and development has progressed smoothly and rapidly. Due to nearly a decade of armed conflict, the pace of infrastructure development was slow during that period. Similarly, political instability and repeated government changes affected development. After the last election to the House of Representatives, the development work has gained momentum under the leadership of the two-thirds majority government formed by the unification of the two parties. Political stability, readiness of the government, political stability and the psychology of the employees and the general public are important in accelerating development. Significant progress has been made in road construction along with other infrastructures since the formation of this government. After the formation of the government, more than five kilometers of blacktop roads are being constructed every day, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has clarified while evaluating the three-year tenure of the government. Despite being affected by the Corona epidemic, 5,498 kilometers of blacktop roads have been constructed by the federal, state and local bodies in a period of three years. A total of 1,463 kilometers of paved roads have been added and 8,419 kilometers have been constructed. The length of the dirt road has reached 9,109 kilometers. During this period, the work of Karnali Corridor, which is considered as the lifeline of the development of Karnali, is moving ahead at a fast pace. After the construction of this road, Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla, which is not touched by the national highway, will be connected to the road network. New doors of development will be opened in Humla and road areas. It is certain that the facilities including electricity, drinking water, education and health will be expanded and the quality will increase after the road is considered as the primary infrastructure of development.


The Karnali Corridor, which was laid two decades ago in 2056 BS, was constructed by the Department of Roads by 2066 BS. Starting in the Fiscal Year 2065/66 and targeting to be completed in FY 2070/71, the period has been extended to FY 2079/80 due to various reasons including Corona Kahar. It has been found that work is being done to operate the vehicles up to Salisalla of Humla by next July. From here, there will be 50 kilometers left to reach Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla. Initially, the Karnali Corridor from Khulalu to Hilsa in Kalikot was considered as 410 km from Bangesimal to Hilsa in Surkhet. As the corridor eventually connects with India and China, it is believed by planners and development experts to transform the region's socio-economic life.

The Karnali state government has tasked the China Railway Engineering Railway Group of China to study the corridor as a way to develop it as a Surkhet-Hilsa expressway. The study states that 410 km road from Surkhet to Hilsa can be constructed in five years at a cost of Rs 64 billion. According to the study, one can travel to Surkhet-Hilsa in 10 hours. As both the federal and state governments have given high priority to speed up the work of Karnali Corridor, which is considered as the development route of Karnali, this route will have a separate existence in the development of Nepal in the next few years. This road will be not only a transport route but also a cultural route. Vehicles are operating on the Kalikot section of the road (about 38 km), 44 km from Bajura and 27 km from Kawadi in Humla to Balukuna. Bridges have been built in some places and are being built in others. As vehicles are operating on the road section under construction, the local people's life has become comfortable and economic activities have increased. Gradually, the road will be improved, upgraded and blacktopped. It is seen that special mechanism and policy should be formulated to solve the regular problems like excessive accidents, floods and landslides on such roads.
