Lalitpur, October 16 – Nepal Communist Party (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has stated that he is willing to step down from party leadership if the party’s Central Committee decides so, but he will not yield to pressures from social media.

Addressing the 10th Central Committee meeting of the UML at Rambagh Palace, Bhanimandal, Lalitpur, Oli said, “If the party’s Central Committee decides and orders it, I am ready to step down with joy. But I will not leave the country in a difficult situation just because someone says so on social media.” He emphasized, “Facebook does not determine the party leadership; this committee does. I am ready to step down when the committee decides. No member should chase populism outside this committee.”

Commenting on the Gen-z movement, Oli condemned the destruction of public property. He stated that those who carry the national flag will not burn public heritage, houses, or industrial establishments, nor seize police uniforms and weapons. He criticized elements opposed to Nepal’s success, culture, traditions, and pride.

Chairman Oli described the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24 as unexpected, highlighting that democracy was established by the people, not the state, and that the people themselves will safeguard it. He stressed that UML is a party committed to patriotism, national development, and social justice, rather than drifting aimlessly. He also called for all political parties to unite in the national interest.

The 11th General Convention of CPN (UML), long awaited after the Gen-z movement, is proposed to be held in Pokhara from November 11 to 12. The final date will be confirmed during the ongoing three-day Central Committee meeting.

15-Point Proposal

Chairman Oli presented a 15-point special proposal at the meeting. It addresses the Gen-z movement of Bhadra 23, attacks on the parliament building, shootings and murders, the Bhadra 24 incident, the current government, House dissolution, investigation commission, propaganda and conspiracy, elections, peace and security risks, corruption control, and good governance.
